Message So I have been trying to sell my wife's old 2000 Suburban for a couple of months now - asking 5K, best bid I have had is 3k.

Yesterday, I came across a dealer ad with a 96 black slicktop on the lot - 115k miles on the odometer, asking $7700.

So I went by and saw them this morning. He said he didn't know much about these cars but he heard that they were "collectible". I said I didn't know much about them either, but that I was looking for something "sporty, cheap and low powered" for my son to drive. I said "he really wants a 2000 vette but it is just too much power for him". Of course I pretended that I was disappointed that the car did not have TTops or leather.

So then the fun started. He gives me the list of deficiencies.

... slight leak from rear diff
... slight leak from front of tranny
... needs tires, front brakes
... blah blah blah. Of course I am thinking "engine is coming out immediately buddy"

So we pop the hood and he starts the car. I can see that he has a loose fuel hose clamp at the non-oem fuel filter and immediately gas starts dumping down the inside fender...

"Dude, shut it off!!!", I say
He does and jumps out and takes a look
"Holy shit! Sorry! Better put a "do not drive" tag on it and have the shop look at it on Monday" he says
I say , " It looks like it might just be a loose clamp." as I spin the clamp with my hand, and " maybe we should tighten it"
He says, "You think? I have a screw driver"

Ten seconds later, problem solved. I am cool - he is still looking a little freaked out. Car is idling amazingly well now BTW

"You still want to drive it? I can have it checked out on Monday"

Of course I said, "Naw, it is fine. You know these cars are getting old - might as well get used to fixing them" (No f'ing way am I leaving this car on the lot - it is straight and relatively clean, accident free.)

Long story short - traded the Suburban for the Z STRAIGHT UP, so I am calling that 4k, and I am very happy :-)

Sales manager said "if this was spring I wouldn't do it, but in the fall I would rather have the Suburban than the sports car on the lot". I shook his hand and said, "thanks for keeping this fun man!"

Pickup is on Monday!

Car is pretty clean inside and out, except for some lame-o forgery JSPEC tails and side markers, plus someone peeled the moldings so it has massive chrome accents. The 96 interior is very nice - the suede is wayyyy better than my VerTTs and the cloth seats are also in great shape - no bolster rips.

All in all should be a decent project

And of course, pics >>>>>
